British racing driver Dario Franchitti has become the envy of enthusiasts after acquiring a Rolls-Royce Wraith Shooting Brake crafted by Dutch coachbuilder Niels van Roij Design. Surprisingly, despite its allure, this two-door wagon isn't the standout vehicle in his impressive collection. Franchitti boasts a garage filled with extraordinary cars, motorcycles, and memorabilia, and he recently offered The Late Brake Show a comprehensive tour of his automotive sanctuary.

Originally from Scotland, Franchitti lived in Nashville, Tennessee, for approximately 15 years before relocating to England, where his newly constructed garage is situated. The first thing that catches the eye is the organization of the space: no tools out of place, no oil stains on the floor, and the area is remarkably well-lit. The garage also serves as his office, complete with a desk, furniture, and shelves filled with various trophies and helmets. Among his memorabilia is an original drawing of Gordon Murray’s T.50.

His vehicles are parked directly across from his office, providing him with an incredible view while seated at his desk. One of his most treasured classics is a Ferrari F40, which he bought at 25 years old in 1999. Now, after more than 25 years, Franchitti admits that the F40 still gives him a thrill when driven as intended. “Every time I get in it and drive it a bit spiritedly, I get out with a bit of a shake. It’s still that wild,” he shared with The Late Brake Show host Jonny Smith. “I cherish it. This is a Franchitti family heirloom,” he added.

Each of his other cars is notable in its own right, including a Porsche Carrera GT, a Ferrari F355, a mostly stock Lancia Delta Integrale, and an Aston Martin Vantage V8. A special mention goes to the Singer-built Porsche 911, which he customized himself, inspired by the 911 Turbo (930) that his father owned during his childhood. However, it's not just about the cool factor; Franchitti emphasizes that cars are tied to the memories they help create, like an impromptu trip from Scotland to Monaco in the F355.

Though there isn't a specific theme to his collection, Franchitti acknowledges his fondness for red cars. This passion began with the 930 his father bought in 1980, finished in Guards Red. His dad later sold the coupe to support Franchitti’s emerging racing career. Years later, Franchitti discovered the car, purchased it at an auction, had it completely restored, and returned it to his father—an incredibly generous gesture.

A pillow on the couch in his office perfectly summarizes it: “It’s not hoarding if your stuff is cool.”
