Man Infiltrates Dodge Dealership, Then Pleads with Police for Release | Carscoops
Breaking into a dealership isn't the wisest decision, but calling the police for help truly takes the cake.
A 38-year-old man from Texas shattered a window to gain entry into a dealership.
He injured himself on the glass and ultimately became trapped inside the showroom.
Authorities indicated he could have simply opened an unlocked door from the inside.
If you’re planning to break into a car dealership, the first step should definitely be to avoid calling the police on yourself. This may seem obvious, yet a man in Tyler, Texas, managed to overlook this fundamental rule in an astonishing way.
The attempted burglary occurred on the night of Wednesday, March 26. Jeremiah Megallon, a 38-year-old resident of Mabank, threw a rock through a window of Patterson Dodge to get inside. Unfortunately for him, the thick double-pane glass fought back, resulting in cuts during his entry, and once inside, he found himself unable to escape.
According to the Tyler Police Department, Megallon called them for help, making them aware of his crime. KLTV reports that when officers arrived, they took Megallon to a local hospital for treatment. He was subsequently arrested and charged with burglary of a business. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to two years and a $10,000 fine.
A Self-Inflicted Setback
Adding to his blunders, police noted that he didn’t even need to call 911. According to department spokesperson Andy Erbaugh, the showroom’s side doors could have been opened from the inside, despite being locked from the outside.
Megallon didn’t manage to steal anything worthwhile. A dealership employee mentioned that the only item he managed to take was some candy from a salesperson’s desk. Clearly, the Mabank resident should have done a bit of research before attempting to break into the Patterson Dodge facility.
Ultimately, this wasn’t exactly a sophisticated burglary. With the self-inflicted injuries, the unnecessary police call, and the fact that he could have simply used the door, Megallon’s break-in may be remembered more for its missteps than its objective. Next time, perhaps skip the rock and window, and if you choose to commit a crime, at least don’t dial 911 on yourself.
