Last month, we shared some positive news for California Mopar enthusiasts after law enforcement shut down a chop shop in Fresno that was hoarding parts for numerous Hemi-powered vehicles. Now, Bay Area pickup truck owners can breathe a bit easier too, following the recent uncovering and dismantling of a fencing operation involved in the illicit trade of pickup truck tailgates.

The Alameda Police Department is celebrating a victory this week, as an investigation into illegal reselling unearthed a collection of stolen pickup tailgates, primarily from Toyota Tacomas. The police are now working to return the stolen goods to their rightful owners, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

“Last week, we provided information about a theft that resulted in the recovery of thousands of dollars’ worth of clothing, which was being sold for profit at various businesses,” the department noted in a Facebook update. “Recently, multiple reports have surfaced regarding stolen truck tailgates suspected to be resold through similar illegal means.”

On April 3, the department uncovered the stash during a search of a property outside the city. The majority of the recovered tailgates are from newer Tacoma models, although other competing brands’ models can be identified in the above image, including what looks like a tailgate from a full-size Chevy Silverado.

“During the operation, several tailgates, thousands of dollars in cash, multiple rounds of ammunition, and several firearms were seized,” the department stated. “Two individuals were apprehended, and detectives are currently reaching out to the victims.”

Additionally, the authorities found several firearms, ammunition, and thousands of dollars in cash. They have not disclosed the names of the suspects, but indicated that the department is actively looking into ongoing reports of fencing operations.
