The Chevrolet sustained significant damage to its front end, and police suggest that the driver's account may be accurate.

The Corvette jumped over a curb and crashed into a building's facade.

Fortunately, the woman sustained only minor injuries and received treatment at a hospital.

Authorities discovered that one of her flip-flops was caught underneath the car's throttle.

A 2003 Chevrolet Corvette had an unexpected collision with a cinder block wall last month in Eureka, Missouri. The elderly driver is attributing the accident to her flip-flops. It might be a challenge explaining this to an insurance adjuster, but local officials confirmed that one of her flip-flops did get wedged under the throttle.

The incident occurred on March 22 when the driver lost control of her V8 Corvette. The vehicle hopped a curb and crashed into the front of a building on Dreyer Avenue, resulting in damage to both the structure and the sports car.

There’s no information on the speed of the car at the time of the crash, but the damage is extensive, and repairs on the Corvette will likely be expensive. Low-quality photos taken at the scene, resembling images from a Nokia 3500, show a crushed front bumper, a severely bent hood, and an upward-pushed front quarter. It’s likely that there has also been damage to the crash structure, the radiator, and possibly the engine.

In an interview with the local newspaper Leader, Eureka Police Capt. Michael Werges mentioned that the woman was treated for minor injuries before being released.

“When we spoke with her, she said she wasn’t sure what happened; her car just took off,” Werges recounted. “While paramedics were checking on her, officers examined the car and noticed she was missing a shoe. Her flip-flop was wedged under the pedal. We’re not entirely certain how it occurred, but it happened very quickly.”

Thankfully, no one else was harmed, as Captain Werges noted that this area is typically quite busy.

There are increasingly fewer C5-generation Chevrolet Corvettes on the roads, and it is disheartening to see one in such poor condition. We hope the insurance company opts for repairs, however, considering that Corvettes from this era can sell for under $20,000, we remain skeptical.
