Renault has given the Austral SUV, which first appeared in 2022, a facelift.
The updated model features new lights, DRLs, and a grille that enhance its premium appearance.
Enhanced soundproofing and additional seat padding are expected to provide greater comfort.
Renault has been refreshing its lineup by introducing a new family design, with the latest model to receive this update being the compact SUV Austral. However, Renault asserts that this facelift goes beyond mere aesthetics, claiming significant enhancements in comfort and refinement will be noticeable during test drives.
The design alterations, inspired by the Rafale (also seen on the newly updated Espace), are likely to attract potential buyers to take a test drive. The revamped SUV showcases a completely redesigned front end, which includes a new hood, making it a costly update for Renault.
In the new design, the company’s diamond emblem is now fully enclosed within the sharper grille, as opposed to jutting up into a notch in the hood. The updated SUV also boasts slimmer headlights, with DRLs that are no longer dangling below; instead, they take the shape of airplane wings and are independently mounted within the new bumpers.
Renault also made subtle modifications to the rear of the vehicle. While the taillights maintain a similar shape, they are slightly shorter, diverging from the industry trend of full-width light bars, and the Renault diamond logo is now flush with the bodywork.
Inside, the 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 12-inch infotainment touchscreen will be recognizable to anyone who has driven the current model, though this version includes more apps through the Google-equipped media system. The refreshed Austral also features more ergonomic seats with added padding to provide support when driving the dual motors and 1.2-liter petrol engine that together deliver a hybrid powertrain of 197 hp (200 PS).
According to Renault, the new Austral is not only more comfortable but also smoother and quieter. The SUV has been equipped with new door seals, revised door mirror bases, and improved insulation under the hood. The Alpine trim includes laminated glass for the front doors, all of which contributes to reducing noise. Additionally, new engine mounts have been installed to minimize vibrations that reach the cabin.
