We’ve been fantasizing about taking luxurious road trips in RVs.

Some of these upscale mobile homes are priced higher than actual houses.

For instance, this $260k Thor Motor Coach Riviera 38RB features two bathrooms.

The popularity of van life has surged in recent years, largely driven by endless Instagram photos of carefree millennials living the dream while the rest of us are stuck with mundane 9-5 jobs, envying their freedom.

However, if trying to fit your entire life into a DIY-converted Ford Transit feels too much like a hobo lifestyle for your refined palate and leaves you feeling unimpressed, perhaps the Motor Coach Riviera 38RB could persuade you to hit the road.

      Luxury on Wheels

Produced by America’s Thor, this is a Class A motor home, the largest type available, measuring 38 ft (11.6 m) in length. Class A RVs typically rest on commercial truck or bus chassis and are equipped with powerful diesel engines capable of transporting you and your condo-like furnishings—this 38RB has a gross vehicle weight of 32,000 lbs (14,500 kg).

Compared to converted Transit-style Class B vehicles or even Class C models commonly found in Europe, Class A RVs like this one are palatial since they are simply much larger and costlier than the preferences of most.

A Price Tag Fit for Royalty

Thor’s website indicates that prices start at a staggering $367,500; however, even at $260,000 for this 2024 model at Leo’s Vacation Center in Maryland, you must be quite affluent to afford one. This isn’t the priciest RV we’ve seen; that title goes to the $1.4 million Brabus Big Boy 1200.

These motor homes are even more opulent than a house you could purchase for a similar amount. This six-berth unit has three slide-out sections to enlarge the living space, dual 68-inch sofas, a king-sized bed (adjustable for TV viewing), a stacked washer-dryer combo, and not just one, but two bathrooms.

Additionally, it includes two more TVs, one located outside for outdoor movie nights, and even a fireplace. While the decor may be quite plain, it likely caters perfectly to the wealthy, older Americans who are presumed to buy these models.

I once had the chance to stay in something similar a few years ago when Jaguar hosted my family and me at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but I didn’t get to drive it. Admittedly, it would be quite unwieldy on UK roads and is undoubtedly designed for the vast spaces of the US, where it can stretch out without the concern of traffic jams or accidentally scraping a mailbox.

If the thought of road-tripping with central heating, a fireplace, and surround sound excites you (who wouldn’t want that?), check out the complete listing for the Riviera 38RB at Leo’s Vacation Center—it's definitely worth a look.
