Authorities reported that criminals absconded with nearly a million dollars worth of Porsche 911s on March 12.
Within a few hours, law enforcement discovered the vehicles and arrested four individuals linked to the incident.
Officials stated that the four men accessed the cars by breaking through a hole in a wall.
Stealing cars is never a wise decision, but some situations make it even more dubious. The criminals in this case clearly lacked intelligence. They stole high-profile Porsches, left a trail of evidence, and didn’t get very far before being apprehended by officers. Instead of enjoying the fruits of their crime in another country, they will now face significant prison sentences.
The event took place in El Paso, Texas, on March 12. The stolen vehicles included a 1971 Porsche 911, a 2014 Porsche 911, a 2007 911 Turbo, and a 2024 Porsche 911. These are high-value sports cars that attract attention wherever they are seen, especially in a location like El Paso.
Local news outlet KFox14 acquired police documents pertaining to the incident, which do not suggest the criminals were particularly clever. Apparently, the group of four used a bore to break through some drywall in a business connected to a storage unit. After entering, they took the cars and made their exit, but they didn’t travel very far. It wasn’t that the police caught them before they could leave; rather, they simply didn’t get far at all.
The four suspects left two of the cars in nearby alleyways. In fact, one was reportedly only five minutes away from the crime scene, while another was six minutes away. Interestingly, police found another vehicle just four minutes later at 160 N. Cotton St and apprehended two suspects there.
It seems the suspects envisioned an international escape. Authorities stated that one of the men revealed their plan: to transport the cars to Mexico for sale. The suspects believed they could get the vehicles across the border via the Bridge of the Americas. One of them expressed a desire to keep at least one of the cars taken during the theft.
The entire operation fell apart in just six hours. The suspects—Corey Dana Reed, 37; Juan Reynaldo Ochoa, 43; Milton Castilleja, 36; and Luis Miguel Ubieta, 42—didn’t even manage to leave the city, let alone escape the country.
Ultimately, none of them will retain the cars, but they will each gain at least one more entry on their criminal records.
