Willow Springs Raceway Will Close This Summer for Upgrades, Price Increases Expected: Sources
The shift to new ownership at Willow Springs International Raceway is expected to encounter several challenges. The Drive has discovered that, alongside current businesses and residents receiving eviction notices, the facility will shut down for July and August—typically its quieter months—to accommodate construction crews. This marks the first significant improvements Willow has undergone in a long while, but while this investment may be beneficial, it will come at the cost of groups who had already reserved track time during the summer.
A community member contacted The Drive regarding the temporary closure:
“We are a tenant operating our business out of the track,” the informant stated. “I spoke with their real estate agent today. I can confirm that we need to vacate by [March] 29th. What they are not disclosing is that they will be closed for the summer due to renovations. They confirmed that most of the renovation work will occur on the big track.”
“They also mentioned that prices will definitely increase,” the informant added. “Willow charges less than fair market value rates.”
The source mentioned that the new owners intend to keep the track accessible to the public, as opposed to privatizing it. Many have indicated that a private model could be difficult to implement given Willow’s remote location and insufficient infrastructure.
“It’s a sad situation all around,” they continued. “The average car enthusiast should get ready to say goodbye to Willow before July 2025.”
Further confirmation about the shutdown was provided by another source, a representative from an organization that had initially reserved an August weekend at the track. They shared correspondence from a Willow Springs employee that verified the July-August timeline for the facility upgrades. This organization was offered an alternative date later in the year but has yet to receive an updated contract or clear information on whether the original booking price will still be honored. Traditionally, Willow has provided discounts to groups booking during the peak summer heat.
A spokesperson for the track’s new owner, Boston-based CrossHarbor Capital Partners, earlier informed The Drive that the company is making every effort to honor any existing facility bookings, “subject to normal course of business adjustments.”
Willow Springs Raceway was first put up for sale in June of the previous year. The asking price has not been disclosed, nor has the final sale price.
