Mercedes-AMG Aims to Shift Focus from the EQC with This New Electric Vehicle | Carscoops

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GLC EV will be built on the new MB.EA platform, expected to deliver impressive performance.

The next generation GLC aims to compete with rivals such as the BMW iX3 in the electric SUV market, with the GLC AMG EV leading the lineup, producing over 500 horsepower.

This model will utilize Mercedes' MB.EA platform, which enables 800-volt charging to facilitate quicker recharging times.

Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz provided a preview of the new all-electric GLC, and recently, our spy photographers captured a prototype of the AMG edition during testing. Although still covered in its recognizable camouflage, there are important visual distinctions that differentiate this performance-oriented GLC from the standard model, along with some intriguing updates beneath the surface.

The prototype is enveloped in a combination of white and black camouflage, revealing some key features that distinguish this AMG GLC from the regular version. The hood appears more muscular, and it sports a different set of headlights, although these seem to be provisional. The lights on the final version are expected to closely resemble those of the standard GLC.

Mercedes-AMG has also equipped the electric SUV with unique new wheels, giving it a more aggressive look. Most of the rear remains obscured by snow, but there is a noticeable large lip spoiler at the back, which is clearly temporary and won't resemble the final design.

This entirely new Mercedes GLC will replace the EQC and is one of the 17 new electric vehicles promised by Mercedes to launch in the coming years. Upon its release, the GLC will compete against the BMW iX3, which is also set for a complete redesign for its next generation.

      Platform and Charging Capabilities

All new GLC models will be constructed on Mercedes' MB.EA platform, a modular electric architecture that supports 800-volt charging, with a maximum charge rate of up to 320 kW. This configuration allows for faster charging times and enhanced overall efficiency.

In contrast to the outgoing EQC, which did not offer a full AMG version, the upcoming GLC EV AMG will deliver significant power. While the EQC's AMG Line reached a maximum of 402 hp, this new AMG variant is expected to exceed 500 hp and may even surpass 600 hp with its two powerful electric motors.
