It hardly qualifies as a circuit. With over 140 turns crammed into more than 10 miles of perilous mountain roads; fast stretches featuring impressive elevation shifts; blind crests and notoriously tricky hairpins. Many believed they had the courage to conquer it, only to be overtaken by the unforgiving speed of its steep descent. I am, of course, referring to Forza Motorsport’s Fujimi Kaido. What else could it be?

This track has been a staple of the franchise’s earlier titles and is making a comeback after almost 15 years in an update for the latest game, set to release this May.

If you’re a Forza enthusiast, you already know the significance of this. If not, there’s truly nothing to compare it to. Gran Turismo never featured an original track on the scale of Nürburgring Nordschleife, whereas Forza had a few. (Anyone recall FM4’s Rally di Positano?) However, Fujimi Kaido stands out as the fan favorite, especially among drifters. It first appeared in the original Motorsport on the original Xbox back in 2005, skipped FM2, then returned for FM3 and FM4. In other words, it hasn’t been seen since the Xbox 360 era, which is quite remarkable.

Another fascinating aspect? This May will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Forza brand, which may help explain why Turn 10 Studios chose this moment to reveal the one fictional track fans have long been yearning for. While I align with the majority opinion, I must say that Alpine Ring from the original Motorsport deserves more recognition. I’d choose it over Maple Valley, and I’m not joking.

Regardless, this is a fitting tribute to commemorate two decades of Microsoft’s homegrown sim racing series, which anyone who has been playing these games for a significant time should appreciate. Fujimi Kaido isn’t just enjoyable for drifting; it’s thrilling in any vehicle, complete with postcard-worthy views, a variety of corner speeds, and, at least in the older games, shorter, point-to-point sections for players who prefer tackling the mountain in segments. Hopefully, we’ll get some actual gameplay footage soon; for now, we only have the image at the top of this page.

Turn 10 states that Fujimi Kaido’s return isn’t the only thing planned for the anniversary. Some “highly requested cars” will be making an appearance, along with themed events. I would love for one of these events to involve racing a wildly modified Integra Type-R around Pacific Shipyards to a Junkie XL rendition of Edgar Winter Group’s “Frankenstein,” although I doubt that specific memory will receive the same level of attention.
