Nurse Organizes Car Community to Provide an Amazing Experience for 11-Year-Old Cancer Patient

Alex Young, an 11-year-old boy from Massachusetts, has been fighting cancer since he was four years old. However, the illness does not define him. He shares a passion that many of you can relate to: cars. This week, his nurse gathered the local car community and law enforcement to set up a drive-by car show for him to enjoy. As a car enthusiast from Massachusetts myself, I’m proud of how well the local car scene came together.
WCVB 5 spoke with Susan Nipoti, Young’s nurse, who shared that she made a Facebook post (with the approval of Young’s family) calling on locals with interesting cars to come and participate, and “within just hours” people rallied. On Thursday, a remarkably diverse array of enthusiastic vehicles paraded through a cul-de-sac for Young to view and enjoy, and he even got to sit in at least one Lamborghini.
“It’s just incredible that so many people care and do things like this, and he’s loving it,” said Kathleen Young, the boy’s grandmother, to the local ABC station. “He’s a fighter, but he’s having a great time today.” The Whitman Police Department, which oversees the town where this event took place, shared the news segment on its Facebook page.
The clip is only a couple of minutes long, but it features a greater variety of cars than I’ve seen at some car shows in California. The lineup included modern muscle cars, classic American vehicles, Japanese tuner cars, supercars, both old and new trucks, and even a Ford GT40. That last one might be a replica, but it’s still impressive.
In my view, Massachusetts can be a tough place for car enthusiasts. The weather is often inclement, roads are heavily salted, many are in poor condition, population density is high, and automotive regulations are stringent. Yet, the state still offers tracks, events, and, as shown in this clip, a thriving automotive community.
