Audi’s SQ9, the flagship SUV, has been seen testing in Europe, with a potential launch slated for next year.

The model bears a close resemblance to the revamped Q7, featuring a longer wheelbase and a distinctive rear design.

It might be built on the Premium Platform Combustion and include a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine.

Audi is developing a top-tier Q9 crossover, and spy photographers have captured the forthcoming S variant. This performance-oriented three-row crossover is expected to compete with the more advanced versions of the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS.

The prototype, spotted in Europe, showcases a large mesh grille accompanied by split lighting units and a broad lower intake that nearly spans the vehicle’s width.

As we move towards the back, the bodywork appears curvy yet somewhat standard. Designers have included an open greenhouse and door handles akin to those on the Ford Mustang Mach-E, positioned along the ascending beltline. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with substantial wheels and a relatively flat roof.

While the rear isn’t particularly eye-catching, it features a four-tailpipe exhaust system along with a small diffuser. This is complemented by wide reflectors, a modest spoiler, and what seems to be boomerang-shaped taillights.

Regrettably, the model closely resembles the Q7, making it difficult to distinguish between the two. However, a detailed look uncovers several differences, such as elongated rear doors and larger third-quarter glass. Most notably, the Q7 has a license plate recess affixed to the liftgate, while the Q9’s is situated on the rear bumper. Although this is not a drastic difference, we hope more variations are concealed under the camouflage.

Audi has been discreet about the Q9 lineup, but it wouldn't be surprising if the model utilizes the Premium Platform Combustion and features a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine in its S variant. We can also anticipate plug-in hybrid options along with a pricing structure that reflects its flagship designation.
