Musk Intends to Contribute $100M to Trump’s MAGA Super PAC Following President's Tesla Sales Promotion | Carscoops
The CEO of Tesla has already contributed $290 million to support Trump's presidential campaign in the lead-up to the election.
Reportedly, Elon Musk intends to donate $100 million to groups affiliated with Trump.
This news emerged just hours after an unusual Tesla promotion occurred on the White House grounds. Trump stated that Musk was being treated unfairly and expressed his intention to purchase a Model S.
If you believed that Donald Trump only welcomed (unelected) Elon Musk in the Oval Office due to his skills with a chainsaw, this information may uncover another reason for his presence. The Tesla CEO has allegedly shown interest in donating $100 million to Trump-controlled entities.
According to the New York Times, this donation – likely the largest ever from someone close to a sitting president – could be directed towards Trump’s political action committees (PACs) to aid Republican efforts to maintain control of the House and Senate in the upcoming midterm elections. Musk has already spent approximately $290 million through his own PAC to assist Trump in his election victory last year.
The timing of this news is certainly intriguing. Just hours prior to the New York Times report, Musk and Trump participated in a surreal Tesla promotion on the White House lawn shortly after Tesla's stock had dropped. Surrounded by five Tesla EVs, including a Model S and a Cybertruck, Trump told reporters that Musk was facing unjust criticism and vowed to buy a Tesla for himself.
“I’m going to buy one because, number one, it’s a great product, the best of its kind, and number two because [Elon Musk] has dedicated his energy and life to this, and I believe he’s being treated very unfairly,” Trump commented regarding the recent protests against Tesla.
At Carscoops, we strive to remain neutral on political matters, recognizing that our community is united by a love for cars, regardless of differing political beliefs. And that's perfectly acceptable: no matter how you voted last November, you are welcome here. However, I suspect that many individuals from both political sides might feel uneasy about the highest office in the country being utilized to promote a range of EVs as if it were a Super Bowl advertisement.
We have previously seen presidents speak favorably about automakers' products, like when Joe Biden drove the Ford F-150 Lightning. However, this Tesla endorsement felt inappropriate when we first learned of it on Tuesday and appears even more troubling now in light of Musk’s planned donation.
