If you've ever had the ambition to own a project car that's more of a "work in progress" than "ready for the road," then this might be the perfect opportunity for you. A half-completed build of a 1996 Honda Civic EK hatchback is listed for sale in Georgia. However, calling it "based on" the Civic may be an overstatement, as the only part of this project that remains from the original car is the shell.
Built upon the 1996 Honda Civic EK hatchback platform, there's little left of the original vehicle. The engine, hood, windows, tailgate, lights, and interior have all been removed. What remains is a custom front inspired by the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro SS.
The modified front end includes a prominent splitter and cut-out bumper intakes, yet the area where the Camaro's grille and headlights would typically sit is entirely sealed off. The high ground clearance and steel wheels contribute to its unusual look, though swapping in a different set of wheels and spacers could enhance its appearance significantly.
Other modifications consist of welded doors, deleted door handles, panels in place of the rear windows, and a massive rear spoiler that extends from the roof. The absence of taillights and a tailgate has created an open access point at the rear, allowing easy entry to the interior.
The cabin is extremely minimalistic, lacking seats, harnesses, a dashboard, or any kind of trim. Nonetheless, it does include a steering wheel, pedals, a gear shifter, and a few gauges. Most importantly, there’s a steel roll cage for additional safety in case of an accident.
The “post-apocalyptic” look of this Camaro Civic starts to make sense when you remember it was designed for Sport Compact Dirt Racing. The owner claims it comes with a “solid build” that features an ECU from a 2004 Honda Accord and a corresponding 5-speed manual transmission. These components would complement a K24 2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine nicely, which could bring some energy to this otherwise empty shell.
The listing on Facebook Marketplace indicates that the car is located in Box Springs, Georgia. The seller is asking for $2,000 or best offer, leaving some room for negotiation. However, prospective buyers should be aware of the additional work needed to make this Camaro Civic operational and street-legal.
With the sixth-generation Camaro no longer in production and no official word on a successor, muscle car enthusiasts are searching for alternatives. While the Dodge Charger and Ford Mustang are the obvious options, a Camaro Civic certainly stands out as more… distinctive. The only catch is that you'll need to complete it yourself.
