Rivian R1S leases are becoming alarmingly affordable.

The 2025 Rivian R1S electric SUV is available for an unusually low lease rate of $599 per month for individuals with good credit, provided they sign before March 15. However, there is a notable upfront cost of $8,494, but the yearly mileage allowance is reasonable (10,000 miles) for a three-year term. If you can manage the initial payment, it seems like a good deal.

The lease price is significant since, as noted by CarsDirect, the usual rate for an R1S lease is much higher—last month, it was $799 per month with $8,694 due at signing. You can find these details (along with all the specific terms) on Rivian’s website now.

For 2025, Rivian has updated its SUV, enhancing ride comfort while keeping the styling and overall performance that have been well received since the model was launched. Having tested all variants of the R1 family, I believe the R1T pickup, which features a slightly longer wheelbase, drives the best among them. However, the SUV’s greater passenger capacity and enclosed cargo space make it particularly attractive for families.

I reached out to Rivian’s communications team to inquire about the reason behind this price reduction, and I will update this post if I receive any interesting information. I suspect that Rivian is simply looking to sell the remaining 2025 model-year SUVs to prepare for the upcoming 2026 models.

This deal is only available in 39 states (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WV), and if you intend to register it in Alaska, you will need to purchase it elsewhere, as Rivian is not yet delivering in that state.

Lessees must sign up and secure their R1S by March 15 to claim it before the month ends. Additional terms include a $495 disposition fee and a $0.30-per-mile charge for exceeding the mileage limit. Naturally, this deal applies only to specific models; one example provided by Rivian is for a new 2025 R1S Dual Standard with a MSRP of $75,900.

The general consensus on Reddit and various anonymous forums is to avoid making down payments on leases whenever possible. However, this is a premium SUV—there’s a cost involved.

In total, you would be spending just over $30,000 for three years driving a new dual-motor R1S while covering up to 30,000 miles. Does this amount beat the depreciation on purchasing a new model? Preliminary research on the listing prices for 2022 R1Ss suggests it may not. Nevertheless, the lease has the potential advantage of a $7,500 tax credit for those who meet the income requirements and, of course, it allows you to drive a brand-new EV. There’s also the uncertainty regarding whether the vehicle will become outdated in three years associated with purchasing an EV outright, which leasing helps to alleviate.
