Did you know that February 27th is Pokémon Day? I certainly didn't, but thankfully, Honda is tuned into the global monster-collecting scene. To celebrate this year, the company has teased the “Honda Koraidon Project.” This unique concept bike is inspired by a legendary ninth-generation fighting/dragon-type Pokémon, and it’s quite impressive.
In an unusual display of corporate neutrality, Honda revealed that the Koraidon Project was influenced by Toyota, which celebrated Pokémon Day in 2024 with its Miraidon. Honda's creation is equally extraordinary, capturing the game's aesthetic with vibrant, lore-accurate colors and intricately designed components.
The bike's dimensions match those of the actual Koraidon, standing eight feet two inches tall and weighing 668 pounds, just like the creature listed in the online Pokédex.
“As the story unfolds, Koraidon regains its powers while accompanying the main character, including the ability to walk on four legs (Limited Build), run with its strong limbs (Sprinting Build), swim swiftly (Swimming Build), and glide through the air (Gliding Build), allowing it to transport its rider to various locations.”
Honda describes this project as a representation of “future mobility.” It’s intended to operate as a motorcycle while also imitating the Pokémon's evolution, transforming into those specific builds. It can even “stand” on its legs thanks to integrated self-balancing technology that keeps it upright in any mode. The bike's hands, neck, face, and legs are designed to move as it accelerates, and Honda plans for the eyes and eyelids to react during speed increases as well.
However, for now, the Koraidon Project will be displayed as a stationary exhibit. If you’re in Tokyo, you can see it for yourself at the Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama from Friday, March 7 to Sunday, March 9.
