The 2025 Daihatsu Hijet comes in 26 different configurations, including compact dump trucks | Carscoops
Daihatsu's kei car LCV meets a variety of professional requirements, though its pricing has risen compared to 2024 due to the increasing costs of raw materials.
The Daihatsu Hijet kei truck and Hijet Cargo are available in various configurations.
Specifically fitted versions include dump trucks, freezers, panel vans, and more.
The 11th-generation Hijet received additional safety features for 2025, while the design remains the same.
Daihatsu has refreshed the Hijet kei truck for 2025 with enhanced safety features to meet regulations. While the exterior and interior design is carried over from the 11th generation that debuted in late 2021, the extensive range of body style options available in Japan is particularly noteworthy.
Despite its compact size, the Hijet proves to be a multifunctional LCV suitable for various professional needs, thanks to its adaptable cargo area. When considering the closely related Hijet truck, Hijet Cargo van, and Atrai passenger van, the range includes at least 26 variants.
The Hijet comes in standard, high roof, and jumbo (extended-cab) body styles, along with "specially equipped vehicles" featuring unique rear attachments. Notably, the "Dump Series" comprises four variations: Multi-purpose dump, Road dump, Earth and sand dump, and Cleaning dump, each equipped with a slightly different hydraulic flatbed.
Moreover, there are two Hijet trims with liftgates, a panel van, and five freezer options for goods transport. To add to these options, Daihatsu provides Deck Van trims of the Atrai and Hijet Cargo, which feature a two-row cabin, sliding doors, and compact rear beds.
The entire range of Hijet and Atrai models is built on the DNGA platform. According to kei car regulations, these models are powered exclusively by 660 cc gasoline engines, producing 46 hp (34 kW / 46 PS) in naturally aspirated form and 63 hp (47 kW / 64 PS) in turbocharged variations.
Power delivery is to either the rear or all four wheels via an electronically controlled 4WD system with an optional differential lock feature, with choices between a five-speed manual and a CVT.
The most affordable version of the Daihatsu Hijet with a single-cab body, standard bed, rear-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox starts at ¥1,028,500 yen ($6,900). Conversely, the priciest model is the Hijet Freezer, which retails for ¥2,667,500 ($17,900) when fitted with the 4WD system and CVT gearbox.
Daihatsu acknowledges that prices had to be raised compared to last year due to "rising raw material costs and other factors."
Of course, the Hijet isn’t the only kei truck available in a wide range of configurations. The Suzuki Carry, Super Carry, and Every van offer similar varieties of body styles, making them direct competitors to the small Daihatsu models in Japan.
