Snowbound Lamborghini Sterrato: Credit for Courage, but Lacking in Cleverness
This orange Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato has recently gained some local fame in Lake Tahoe and has become a target for jokes on Reddit. It appears to have been caught moving awkwardly and ultimately getting stuck in the snow. Many commenters are criticizing the driver for their recklessness, but honestly, if I owned one of these, I’d probably want to take it skiing as well.
After all, Lloyd and Harry showed us that a Lamborghini is a suitable vehicle for a ski town.
The Sterrato is the “off-road” version of the Huracán supercar. With an advanced traction control system and an impressive ground clearance of 6.7 inches (for comparison, a Subaru WRX only has 5.4), it should actually handle snow relatively well. However, it also boasts 602 horsepower and has a relatively light weight of around 3,200 pounds, which can be challenging to control on slippery roads, even with appropriate tires. I would guess it’s likely equipped with the OEM Bridgestone Dueler all-terrains, which I have not personally used but have heard are not particularly effective in snow conditions.
I saw that image of the car stuck on my feed twice today, and it seems that many others have shared similar ones as well. The original poster appears to be Reddit user winstonalonian, who also uploaded a dashcam video. I found another image of the vehicle stuck in a different location, and there are likely more circulating online.
In the dashcam clip and the main photo, the near-jackknifed position of the large truck suggests that the little Lamborghini narrowly avoided being crushed by a semi-truck that would struggle to stop in those conditions. I couldn’t easily locate a police report or anything, but it seems that the small Subaru must have pulled over to help, while the truck in the oncoming lane stopped abruptly to prevent an accident. Or perhaps the truck was already stopped? Regardless, it was a tough day for Tahoe roads but a fun day for internet banter.
I hope the car was removed without causing too much trouble for anyone else. At least its bright orange color made it easy to identify.
