The startup EVision has created a fully customizable LED display designed for Teslas and other electric vehicles.

This display is affixed to the front bumper, making use of the absence of a grille.

Owners can utilize the display to project simulated grilles, custom designs, and text messages.

We are all familiar with the sleek, grille-free front ends of contemporary Teslas and other electric vehicles, but what if that vacant space could serve a more personal function? Introducing EVision, a company based in California that seeks to add some flair to the front of your Tesla. Their proposal involves a large LED display mounted directly on the bumper, enabling owners to exhibit everything from graphics and images to videos.

The concept isn’t entirely new, as car manufacturers have experimented with bright front-end displays in various concept vehicles, and we have seen production models with screens on the back, such as GM’s Baojun EV in China. However, EVision's concept, which recently debuted at CES, brings this idea into the aftermarket market.

      Limitless Customization

In EVision’s demonstration, the front screen of a Tesla Model Y showcased different designs inspired by Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti, and Rolls-Royce, along with numerous variations of faux air intakes and daytime running lights. Want an animated Spiderman on your vehicle? EVision has got you covered. The display can present any animation or graphic, ranging from cosmic scenes to urban landscapes.

According to the company, the display “reflects the driver's unique personality, turning the Tesla Model Y into a striking, dynamic statement on the road.” Furthermore, the “fully customizable LED grille” can be utilized for advertising purposes, showcasing ads or various messages. Essentially, the only limit is your creativity – and likely, copyright regulations.

The display is attached to a custom bumper specifically designed for the pre-facelifted Tesla Model Y, with users managing the display through a dedicated smartphone application, allowing immediate updates to the EV’s appearance.

Alongside the Model Y, EVision has also released images of a similar display for the Tesla Cybertruck’s distinctive front end. And for those who do not own a Tesla, there is no need to worry – EVision has vowed to provide the same product for other electric vehicle manufacturers.

      What is the Price?

At CES, the company indicated that the LED display would cost between $2,500 and $3,000, with an installation time of about two hours. Before considering this price to be high for a bumper sticker with a screen, keep in mind that EVision’s display could present a unique opportunity for rideshare or commercial fleets to generate revenue from advertising on their electric vehicles.

      Is It Durable?

Now, let’s address the main concern: durability. While it remains unclear if EVision has added a protective layer to the display to resist scratches or impacts (we have contacted them for further clarification but have yet to receive a response), the position of this screen, at the front of the vehicle, inherently leaves it exposed. We all know that driving at high speeds can result in various debris (rocks, insects, and other objects) hitting your car, and even paint can be damaged by such impact.

So, consider what might happen to a thin, exposed LED display under similar circumstances. Moreover, this issue is not limited to high-speed driving; even minor bumps while parking could lead to scratches, cracks, or worse on your vibrant LED display. While it may look impressive in a demonstration video, the practicality of mounting a screen in the vehicle's most vulnerable location is certainly debatable.

Below, you can find video coverage from CES 2025 in Las Vegas along with some AI-generated clips from EVision’s official YouTube channel.
