These renderings imply that the new Charger design fits well with a Mach-E style crossover shape.

An independent designer has conceptualized a new Dodge Dart based on the Stellantis Peugeot 408.

The render presents a strong argument for incorporating a liftback-style crossover into Dodge’s lineup.

In theory, an electric version of this crossover could compete with the Ford Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y.

After saying goodbye to the classic Challenger and Charger, and with the Durango potentially being phased out, Dodge is currently experiencing a significant identity crisis. The brand urgently needs new, high-volume models to recover, as it will soon be left with only the new Charger and the Alfa Romeo-based Hornet. Could a revived Dodge Dart, last produced from 2012 to 2017, be the solution?

Due to Dodge’s affiliation with the Stellantis group, it could take an existing model, rebrand it, and market it under its own name. One intriguing possibility is the Peugeot 408 crossover, arguably one of the most eye-catching vehicles in Stellantis’ European lineup. Designer Theophilus Chin posits that the 408 could provide an excellent basis for a modern Dart, whether in its fully electric E-408 or hybrid 408 variant.

In designing this contemporary Dart, the rendering specialist has maintained the overall crossover shape of the 408 while incorporating the bodywork from the new Charger Daytona. Naturally, if Dodge were to create a new liftback-style crossover based on the Peugeot, it would need a different appearance from the Charger. Nevertheless, it could retain some design features, much like Ford's approach with the Mustang Mach-E and the two-door ‘Stang.

In Chin’s interpretation, the Dart’s front and rear designs reflect those of the Charger Daytona. This includes retro-inspired headlights, a distinct LED light bar, and the R-Wing feature that directs air over the hood. At the rear, the design uses the same signature LED taillights, placed higher on the tailgate than on the Peugeot. This creates an interesting blend of traditional and modern elements, incorporating familiar Dodge characteristics to ensure that the crossover unmistakably belongs to the brand.

While it seems unlikely that Dodge will revive the Dart as a crossover based on the Peugeot 408, there is still a rationale for adding another SUV to its range. The Hornet is a viable choice, but it lacks excitement and desirability. These renders indicate that, with appropriate modifications, the Charger’s design could be adapted into a crossover, merging muscle and practicality into a single offering.

Would you support the idea of a new Dart crossover, or is this merely wishful thinking? Perhaps you believe Dodge should abandon this concept altogether and pursue a different path. Regardless, we would like to hear your opinions. Please share your thoughts in the comments below on the future direction of Dodge’s lineup.
