This GT-R features numerous aftermarket modifications, including an exhaust that may be a bit too loud.
The driver had a radar detector, but it failed to alert him about the officer.
In true Canadian style, the police took the driver to a nearby Tim Hortons.
The Nissan was impounded for a week after the driver was recorded at 93 mph.
A YouTuber in Canada has lost his heavily modified Nissan GT-R after police impounded the vehicle for speeding excessively in a 90 km/h (56 mph) zone in Lantzville, British Columbia. In addition to the week-long loss of his Japanese supercar, he received a CA$368 (~$250) ticket.
The incident occurred on February 2 at around 6 p.m., when an unmarked officer from the British Columbia Highway Patrol noticed a loud engine speeding away from a stoplight on Highway 19. Sensing someone was having too much fun, the officer used his laser speed reader and clocked the GT-R at 150 km/h (93 mph) in the 90 km/h zone.
The driver probably had no idea that the police were aware of him, as the GT-R was fitted with a radar detector. However, according to Corporal Michael McLaughlin from the BC Highway Patrol, “a laser reader will not be detected by a detector until it’s too late.”
It’s not clear if this particular GT-R has any major mechanical enhancements, but it certainly has a range of visual modifications. For instance, it includes a new rally-style light pod on the hood, yellow LED daytime running lights, and a roof rack with a large cage. Additionally, the Nissan features aftermarket wheels and a prominent rear wing.
"The Nissan GT-R driver, who referred to himself as a YouTube influencer, did not notice the unmarked police vehicle and was surprised that his radar detector did not activate," Corporal McLaughlin noted.
Instead of resisting, the driver and his passenger complied with the police. After the vehicle was towed, officers even provided them a ride to a nearby Tim Hortons while they awaited the driver’s mother to pick him up—because sometimes even influencers need a lift home.
