50 Years of Brembo: The Iconic Cars and Motorcycles It Has Discerned

When we consider race cars, our thoughts usually focus on speed. While that's certainly crucial, equally significant is the ability to stop quickly, effectively, and safely. This is where Brembo comes in, the Italian brake manufacturer renowned for its association with race cars, motorcycles, and high-performance street vehicles, celebrating 50 years of involvement in racing across various series including Formula 1, MotoGP, IndyCar, Supercross, and Le Mans.

To mark this milestone, Brembo has shared images of some of the most iconic and successful racing vehicles (both cars and bikes) it has equipped over the years, along with a timeline showcasing the company’s notable achievements. The photographs below feature legends like Niki Lauda with his 1977 Ferrari 312T, Michael Schumacher in the illustrious F2000, and Max Verstappen, who at just 18 years old became the youngest F1 race winner in 2016. Interestingly, there is no photo of the Ferrari 499P that triumphed at the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, ending a 50-year winless streak for Maranello.

The collection also highlights plenty of motorcycle racing action, showcasing stars like Mick Doohan, Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, and Enea Bastianini multiple times. Brembo became the exclusive brake supplier for MotoGP in 2016, having earlier secured the same status for IndyCar in 2012. The company provides brake calipers for all 10 F1 teams, whether under the Brembo name or its sister brand, AP Racing.

In 2023, The Drive received an exclusive tour of Brembo's headquarters in Curno following the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That year, Brembo supplied brakes for 90% of the competitors. For those interested in the production of the Carbon Sausage, more information can be found here.

Last month, Brembo announced its new role as the braking technology partner for IMSA, broadening its footprint in North America and entering one of the premier racing series globally. I eagerly anticipate the exciting innovations it will bring to the tracks during its 50th anniversary season—not just for teams, but for fans to appreciate as well.
