Mercedes EVs Are Being Offered Discounts of Up to $15,000 Due to Low Sales.
Mercedes-Benz offers five distinct electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States, not including AMG variants and the Maybach version of the EQS SUV. This may be considered excessive, especially given the low interest from car buyers last year. Sales for the EQB, EQE, and EQS across all body styles plummeted by 36%, 39%, and an alarming 52% respectively in 2024 compared to 2023. Conversely, the company’s lineup of plug-in hybrids has shown a successful launch. It seems this could be the reason Mercedes is providing significant discounts on its higher-end EVs, including up to $15,000 off the EQS AMG.
A variety of promotions was communicated to dealers recently, as reported by CarsDirect, affecting nearly all trims of the EQS sedan, EQS 580 SUV, and every AMG and Maybach model. This includes the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV, which sees a discount of $10,500 off its $181,050 price tag.
Regarding the more accessible models, the EQS 450 4Matic sedan has a price cut of $13,500 from its $108,550 MSRP, with the same reduction applied to the more expensive EQS 580 version. The EQS 580 SUV, priced at $128,500, also enjoys a discount of $10,500. Although normal EQE models are not part of these discounts, the $108,050 AMG EQE sedan receives an $10,000 reduction, and the $110,750 AMG EQE SUV sees an $8,000 price cut.
This leads us to the $148,700 EQS AMG sedan, which benefits from the largest reduction among these vehicles, totaling $15,000. (It's worth noting that there is no EQS AMG SUV.)
None of these discounts match the noteworthy $50,000 off the Audi RS E-Tron GT saw at the end of 2023, which lessees could have accessed by combining various concurrent promotions, including one for Costco members. The E-Tron GT was facing poor sales at that time, and similarly, Mercedes’ EQ line is currently struggling. If the ongoing trend of plug-in sales significantly outpacing that of pure EVs from the previous year's sales report is any indication, it wouldn't be surprising if Mercedes reduces its EQ-branded offerings, at least in the U.S.
