For just over five years, John Cena has been sharing his reliable and confident voice in Honda commercials. (If he appears in the ads, he's hard to spot.) However, he's also a long-time car enthusiast, which is evident in the Hondas he drives. In 2023, he revealed that he was using a Boost Blue FK8 Civic Type R as his daily driver; about a year later, he exchanged the sports sedan for a new Championship White FL5. Now, he continues this trend with a new Prelude.
The wrestler and actor picked up the keys to one of Honda’s hybrid coupes over the weekend, matching the color of his former FK8. Cena mentioned that he acquired his Prelude from Wesley Chapel Honda near Tampa, Florida, while having his CTR serviced. This isn't particularly surprising given his status as a superstar and brand ambassador, but it's amusing to consider. He seems to collect new Hondas as if they were championship belts.
Naturally, Cena’s two cars in that image have much in common. The Prelude is built on the Civic chassis and features the Type R’s suspension and brakes. The stark difference lies in their powertrains, aside from the number of doors. The Civic Type R generates 315 horsepower from Honda’s latest K-series turbo-four, whereas the Prelude has quite a bit less power—200, to be exact—but since it’s a hybrid, it does offer decent torque.

Last fall, Cena featured in a Honda advertisement focusing on the Prelude, and in late 2024, he narrated one of the most memorable motorsport-themed commercials lately, showcasing clips of Ayrton Senna and Max Verstappen.
Ultimately, if you're someone who appreciates a good Civic but has space for something slightly more comfortable and upscale in your garage, the Prelude is likely a great option. (An Integra Type S would also be a solid choice, but we haven't yet seen Cena drive one off the lot.) And don't attribute it all to an endorsement deal; Cena previously owned a Jaguar XJ13 replica, proving he has impeccable taste.
