      Italdesign has revamped the Honda/Acura NSX that was discontinued in ’22.

      The roof snorkel takes inspiration from the NSX R GT, and there’s a hoop-style wing.

      Production will be extremely limited, and all units will be right-hand drive.

      It seems the NSX is experiencing a revival. Just weeks after Pininfarina redefined the classic supercar disruptor, Italdesign has focused on the second-generation NSX, which was produced from 2016 to 2022, with design cues loosely reminiscent of the original. This iteration has also received approval from Honda.

      

      Named the NSX Tribute by Italdesign, the new model made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon, with a select few eventually reaching owners, all in right-hand drive. The renowned design firm takes client vehicles and provides a comprehensive visual and aerodynamic overhaul inspired by the first-generation NSX and its rarer special editions.

      Italdesign characterizes the Tribute as a forward-thinking tribute rather than purely a nostalgic endeavor. The goal is to blend memory and innovation into a unified design language rooted in both Japanese engineering and Italian craftsmanship.

      The Roof Sucks

      The exterior design speaks volumes, featuring a roof scoop that references the unique NSX R GT, with the rear wing reimagining the original floating spoiler. There are subtle eyelids that suggest the NA1’s pop-up headlights without directly replicating them, alongside aerodynamic elements that appear functional rather than merely decorative.

      Inside, the modifications are more subdued. New trims, custom materials, and subtle nods to F1 legend Ayrton Senna, who contributed to the tuning of the first car, can be found.

      The press materials do not mention whether any modifications have been made to the hybrid-assisted 3.5-liter bi-turbo V6. The standard 2017-22 NSXs delivered 573 hp (581 PS), which was enhanced to 602 hp (610 PS) for the 2021-22 Type S.

      Ultra limited and Ultra Expensive

      Italdesign has not disclosed how many units will be produced, only indicating that it will be an ultra-limited series. Given its track record with projects like the $1.1 million Nissan GT-R50, it’s expected that this model will be neither affordable nor plentiful. However, this scarcity significantly appeals to affluent Honda enthusiasts. Would you prefer one of these over Pininfarina’s updated first-gen NSX?
