Subaru Unveils New STI Editions, Yet the Most Important Ones Remain an Unanswered Question | Carscoops
Subaru's booth at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon will emphasize performance.
Special variants of the WRX, Levorg, and Impreza are set to be unveiled.
The lineup includes a new entry for the Super Taikyu Series in racing and rally categories.
Subaru will shift its focus at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon from off-road elements to speed, handling, and track-oriented enhancements. The brand has confirmed a lineup of six vehicles for the event, featuring three special editions of production models and three motorsport builds designed for racing and rally events.
At the forefront are two striking yellow models, the WRX and Levorg, both bearing the lengthy title “STI Sport R-Black Limited II STI Performance edition.”
These models are distinguished by their eye-catching new Sunrise Yellow color, complemented by matte black 18-inch aluminum wheels and black accents on the grille, side mirrors, and roof antenna.
Inside, the sporty sedan and wagon come equipped with Recaro seats that feature yellow perforated upholstery, black stitching, and suede-like inserts around the instrument cluster.
While there are no confirmed updates regarding power output or suspension adjustments, Subaru mentions that both vehicles will include a range of authentic accessories and STI Performance components.
Next up is the Impreza ST-H STI Performance Edition with the Plus Package. As indicated by its name, it’s based on the ST-H trim but is enhanced with STI Performance Parts aimed at improving handling precision and visual appeal.
Although official photographs show the model in the traditional Subaru blue, the version displayed at the event will be painted black, featuring vibrant red interior accents for contrast.
The real highlight, however, is not the specifications. Subaru plans to give away a customized Impreza as a prize to a visitor who completes a survey during the event.
More Mystery Unveiled
The lineup will also feature three vehicles specifically tailored for racing and rallying. The most notable introduction is a brand-new entry prepared for the 2026 Super Taikyu Series. Subaru has yet to release full specifications, but it has confirmed that this car will operate on carbon-neutral fuel, provide high performance, and serve as a testing platform for next-generation technology.
This mysterious model will be accompanied by an upgraded version of the BRZ GT300, set to re-enter the Super GT Championship in the upcoming season. Subaru aims to regain title-winning status for the first time since 2021. Rounding out the motorsports lineup is a modified WRX VBH rally car, refined for competition in the JN-1 class of the All Japan Rally Championship.
But that’s not all. The automaker intends to maintain excitement leading up to the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 9 with teaser content. The first preview clip showcases what looks like a blue WRX STI S4, featuring the distinctive sound of a manual transmission. This version is anticipated to join the Japanese market sometime in 2026, with more details expected in the coming days.
