Suzuki Reintroduces Jimny 3D in Australia, But With a Higher Price | Carscoops
Australia's beloved mini off-roader makes a return featuring enhanced safety, new screens, and a price hike ahead of 2026 deliveries.
After a brief absence, Suzuki reintroduces the Jimny 3-Door to Australia.
The 2026 lineup includes Lite and Jimny trims with improved tech features.
Prices have risen by $2,000 due to robust demand and limited competition.
The Jimny has long been cherished by Australians as a compact off-roader that has gained national popularity. Earlier this year, however, the 3-Door variant quietly disappeared from the market after it could not comply with new regulatory requirements.
Now, following a mildly refreshed Jimny launch in Japan, Suzuki has announced the return of the short-wheelbase model to Australia, along with a slight enhancement in technology and safety features.
What’s New?
The 2026 Suzuki Jimny will be available in two familiar trims. The base Lite model now features a 7-inch infotainment screen and has finally eliminated the nostalgic CD player, while the standard Jimny upgrades to a larger 9-inch display.
Suzuki's local announcement did not mention the 4.2-inch driver information screen found in the Japanese version, indicating that Australians might miss out on that specific upgrade.
The exterior and interior design remains largely unchanged. However, the 3-Door variant now benefits from improved driver assistance systems that were previously exclusive to the longer 5-Door model.
New features include the Dual Sensor Brake Support II system, Lane Departure Prevention, Adaptive Cruise Control, and front and rear parking sensors.
As expected, there are no changes to the ladder-frame chassis or the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS). Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, both connected to a standard part-time 4WD system.
The Jimny’s success in Australia has granted it the highest retained value of any SUV, with some owners even profiting from selling used models due to limited supply and extended waiting lists.
Pricer Than Before
Deliveries of the revamped Jimny 3-Door are set to commence in February 2026. Prices before on-road expenses start at AU$31,990 (approximately US$20,700 at current exchange rates) for the base Lite, while the standard Jimny has the same starting price for the manual version or AU$36,490 (US$23,600) for the automatic.
This represents a AU$2,000 (US$1,300) increase compared to the previous model, with Suzuki relying on strong demand and a lack of direct competition to support the price rise. Meanwhile, the longer 5-Door Jimny remains the more practical alternative for those seeking additional space without sacrificing the Jimny's appeal.
