The RDS Raptor is an electric platform featuring three wheels and a unique mounting system that enables the installation of various upper modules.

RDS's mobility platform is designed to separate into upper and lower parts for customizable modular options.

The "Sparrow" variant resembles a motorcycle and showcases a racing design created by F1 driver Tsunoda.

Driven by an electric motor, this tilting three-wheeled vehicle will be categorized as a motorized bicycle.

It appears that companies continue to find innovative ways to reinvent the wheel, and RDS is taking another approach. The Japanese brand has introduced a new modular mobility platform known as the Raptor, a versatile electric three-wheeler that can convert into completely different vehicles.

The system operates by separating the vehicle into upper and lower sections, allowing users to replace top modules for various purposes while maintaining the same base structure.

The true innovation lies in the Raptor’s detachable modules, which connect via a custom locking mechanism designed for strength and ease of use.

RDS describes this concept as an opportunity for “creators and businesses across diverse fields” to explore new vehicle designs without needing to start from the beginning each time.

Multiple concept models have been developed, but the racing edition stands out. Named the Sparrow, it was created in collaboration with MIE Racing, a team competing in the FIM Superbike World Championship.

The Sparrow’s upper section features the recognizable design elements of a sport motorcycle, including handlebars, a single-seat arrangement, and streamlined bodywork that resembles a racing profile. While the upper part is visually appealing, the proportions leave much to be desired, as the wheels appear small in relation to the overall height.

Nonetheless, the company has launched a special edition of this EV at the Japan Mobility Show, designed by F1 driver Yuki Tsunoda from Red Bull Racing.

This Sparrow Tsunoda Edition showcases a racing livery embellished with autumn leaves in shades of orange, blue, and white, giving it a more playful and seasonal aesthetic.

Underneath the customizable body, all versions of the Raptor share the same mechanical components. The lower frame consists of three wheels powered by a single electric motor drawing from a 48V lithium-ion battery. Both the front and rear feature swing-arm suspension coupled with a tilting system to enhance stability during turns.

The dual front wheels have a diameter of 12 inches, while the rear wheel is slightly smaller at 10 inches. All wheels are fitted with hydraulic disc brakes. The EV is capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph), although a speed limiter can be set to a desired level.

RDS states that the Raptor will be classified as a motorized bicycle in Japan. Details on pricing and availability for individual versions will be shared at a later date. Furthermore, the company is exploring the development of an autonomous driving unit for commercial applications.
