Nearly a year has passed since Jaguar’s significant rebranding announcement, and during this time, we’ve witnessed indications that the automaker is getting closer to a production-ready Type 00 (or whatever its final name will be). We have already seen it undergoing tests at the Nürburgring, so much of the information here is not new. However, for the first time, our spy photographers have captured the prototype with its liftgate open—and, wow, is that opening small.
Everything we’ve encountered regarding the Type 00 so far has exuded “road presence,” which makes this seem particularly amusing. It’s clear that Jaguar’s camouflage adds a fair amount of bulk to this test vehicle (and let’s not forget, camera angles can enhance dimensions, right?), so we believe the perception is heightened by the situation. Nevertheless, for such a large sedan, that cargo opening is rather diminutive.
Describing Jaguar’s ambitions for the Type 00 as lofty would be an understatement. This vehicle is intended to embody both Jaguar’s legacy and its future. It aims to target the upscale market, leveraging the brand’s history of exclusivity, yet it will do so without relying on a conventional internal-combustion engine.

It’s safe to assert that the eventual production model will not align with anyone's preconceived notions of a Jaguar (or an EV, based on this design). Just picture your grandfather trying to fit his oxygen tank into that trunk! However, we are eager to see what Jaguar has planned as it continues to transform itself in the years ahead.
