A teaser from Italdesign suggests the revival of one of Japan's most beloved sports cars in a new format.
Italdesign is developing a mysterious project inspired by Honda's NSX, showcasing only the rear of the NSX with Italdesign branding below.
This initiative could either be a unique tribute or a limited-production supercar.
Update: Italdesign has released a brief teaser video for its enigmatic Honda/Acura NSX Tribute, offering a first look at the sports car after weeks of speculation based solely on its name.
The short clip provides a glimpse of the rear, highlighting the LED taillight strip along with some hints of what’s forthcoming. Small side winglets and a roof-mounted air scoop are barely visible.
The latter element is particularly intriguing, as it is not commonly found on NSX models, except for some rare cases like the tall mast-style snorkel on the very limited NSX-R GT or the Mugen NSX RR Concept.
There remains uncertainty about whether the NSX Tribute will feature entirely unique bodywork, which it appears to do. However, if we were to speculate, it likely represents a modern take on the original NSX, built on the foundation of the recently discontinued second-generation model, known as the NSX Type S in its last iteration.
This version included a hybrid arrangement with a 47-hp front motor, a 72-hp rear motor, a 1.3-kWh lithium-ion battery, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generating 600 horsepower, powering all four wheels.
Currently, details are limited, and speculation persists. However, considering Italdesign’s history, such as its reimagined Nissan GT-R50, it's hard not to be curious.

A new project is taking form in Italy, as Italdesign prepares a secret model that will pay homage to the legendary Honda NSX. Very little information is available about the vehicle, but reinterpreting one of the most iconic sports cars from Japan will be a significant challenge. If Italdesign falls short, enthusiasts will certainly voice their opinions.
The design firm announced the project through a recent social media post. The teaser image was minimalistic, displaying only the Honda and NSX badges against a blue backdrop, with Italdesign's logo at the bottom.
It seems the VW Group-owned studio has received approval from Honda to create a new tribute model from scratch, potentially akin to Lamborghini's Aventador-based Countach LPI 800-4. It remains unclear whether this will be a one-off prototype or a limited-edition model.
Unless Italdesign surprises with a reference to the second-generation car, indications suggest that the tribute will concentrate on the first-generation NSX. That model demonstrated that a sports car could achieve both speed and reliability, combining stellar performance with practicality in a way that reset industry expectations.
The original NSX was designed internally by Honda, but a concept version was introduced in 1984 with styling by the renowned Pininfarina. The first-generation model has aged gracefully and would provide an ideal foundation for a new iteration.
