The Only Challenger That Remains Resilient Against Market Declines | Carscoops
Dodge’s limited-edition Black Ghost demonstrates that the muscle car legacy is still alive as values surpass six figures.
Only 300 Challenger Hellcat Black Ghosts were produced during the Last Call series.
The 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine generates 807 hp thanks to the Jailbreak package.
Collectors are eyeing potential future value, though the market remains unpredictable.
If you've ever aspired to own one of the last Dodge Challenger models in showroom condition with delivery mileage, there’s a brief opportunity left before it disappears. For those who aren't able to afford the Demon 170 but still desire something unique, powerful, and unlikely to depreciate, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Black Ghost stands out as an excellent choice.
Dodge created just 300 units of the Hellcat Black Ghost as part of the ‘Last Call’ series of Challenger vehicles. It pays tribute to the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE that Godfrey Qualls raced down Woodward Avenue in the 1970s, where the original Black Ghost gained its name and reputation.
Unlike many other Last Call editions, the Black Ghost continues to attract significant attention in the pre-owned market. Earlier this week, one was sold for $115,000, demonstrating that enthusiasts still recognize its value in this limited production run.
The car, which was listed on Bring A Trailer, comes in Pitch Black with white graphics and is fitted with 20-inch silver wheels. The window sticker indicates an MSRP of $100,865, although it’s unclear whether the original owner actually paid that amount or faced a significant dealer markup.
According to its odometer, the previous owner hardly used it. The car shows only 13 miles, essentially delivery mileage, implying it was stored right after arriving home and never driven.
Collectors generally concur that, considering the rarity of the Black Ghost, it could become a prized item in the future. However, nothing in the used car market is guaranteed, and values may decline over time as the market adjusts, even for special ‘Last Call’ editions.
The Black Ghost’s powertrain cannot be matched by any current Dodge model. Equipped with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, it produces a staggering 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque. However, with the inclusion of the Jailbreak package, the output is raised to an impressive 807 hp.
Until Dodge opts to fit a V8 in the next-generation Charger, a Hellcat-powered Challenger like the Black Ghost represents the purest way to experience classic American muscle at its finest.
