Nissan Transformed the Dacia Duster into a Mini Armada | Carscoops
The new Nissan Tekton will be produced in India and sent to select international markets.
Nissan has provided a sneak peek of the Tekton SUV ahead of its 2026 launch in India. It is built on the CMF-B platform, which is shared with Renault and Dacia SUVs. Inspired by the styling of the Patrol/Armada, the Tekton has a more upscale appearance.
The compact SUV segment is about to become more exciting. Nissan has revealed more details about the upcoming Tekton, set to debut in 2026, starting in India before expanding to global markets. Essentially, the Tekton is a rebadged variant of the latest Dacia Duster, which will also be available in India under the Renault brand.
The name Tekton comes from the Greek word meaning craftsman or builder. Initially unveiled in March 2024, the recent teasers highlight its styling, heavily drawing inspiration from Nissan's flagship Patrol, known as the Armada in North America. While its structure resembles that of the Duster, the Tekton features sharper design elements that help set it apart.
A Duster With Armada Touches
The new model showcases a Nissan-specific front design with C-shaped LED headlights and chrome accents on the grille. It also sports a sculpted hood similar to the Duster, but with the Tekton name displayed. The rugged front bumper includes aluminum-style accents around the air intakes, a design mirrored at the rear.
The side profile and greenhouse are shared with the Dacia SUV, although Nissan has introduced different side gills and unique alloy wheels. The rear end features distinctive taillights with Patrol/Armada-style LED graphics connected to Nissan’s logo.
While the exact dimensions are unclear, the Tekton's length is expected to be quite similar to the Dacia's measurement of 4,343 mm (171 inches).
During the video reveal, Nissan showcased a single image of the dashboard, featuring body-colored trim alongside glossy black and metal accents. Although the digital cockpit was not disclosed, Nissan promises “advanced tech” and a “premium interior,” branding it a “segment disruptor.”
Under the Hood
The Tekton will utilize the CMF-B architecture, which is the foundation for the entire Dacia lineup and several Renault, Mitsubishi, and Nissan models in Europe. Specific details about the powertrain options are still undisclosed, but it is anticipated to include turbocharged 1.0-liter and 1.3-liter engines shared with the upcoming Renault Duster.
Nissan aims to officially reveal the Tekton in India in 2026, with sales commencing the same year. Production will occur at the Chennai facility, which is jointly operated with Renault.
As the company seeks to bolster its presence in India, it also plans to export the Tekton to select global markets. Additional details, including complete specifications, will be released closer to the launch.
The Tekton will compete with models such as the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and VW Taigun, positioning it against a competitive array of compact SUVs.
