In the first nine months of the year, GM sold 2.2 million vehicles, achieving a 17.2 percent share of the U.S. new car market.

Just 18 hours ago, Brad Anderson reported that GM has secured a 17.2 percent market share in the U.S. for 2025, marking its highest share since 2015. Prominent models contributing to this success include the Silverado EV, Blazer EV, and Sierra EV. However, Buick faced challenges in September.

Thanks to increased sales in the first three quarters of 2023, GM's share of the U.S. new car market has reached its highest level in a decade. This success can be attributed to rising demand for various EVs and record sales of several SUVs.

From January to September, GM’s sales totaled 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S., reflecting a 10 percent rise compared to the same period last year. Consequently, it holds a 17.2 percent share of the U.S. new car market, the highest since 2015. Although sales growth saw a slight dip in the third quarter, they still rose by 8 percent, providing GM with its best market share for the quarter since 2017.

Electric vehicles have shown significant growth, with year-to-date sales increasing by 105 percent to 144,668 units. In Q3 alone, sales grew by 107 percent, reaching 66,501 units. Notably, the Chevrolet Equinox EV experienced a remarkable 156.7 percent rise in September, selling 25,085 units, up from 9,772 last year. Year-to-date figures are even more impressive, soaring by 389.9 percent to 52,834 units. However, it’s important to note that deliveries of the battery-electric SUV only began in May 2024, explaining its rapid sales increase.

Demand for the Silverado EV has surged by 78.6 percent this year and by 97.5 percent in September, with 3,940 units sold. The Blazer EV saw a 1.1 percent increase in sales in September and a 36.7 percent rise year-to-date, while Sierra sales jumped by 771.8 percent last month to 3,367 units.

Cadillac is also thriving, with year-to-date sales up 19.4 percent to 132,629. In September alone, sales rose by 25 percent to 46,525. Additionally, Chevrolet has seen a 9 percent increase in sales this year and an 8.3 percent rise in September, while GMC has experienced a 10.3 percent boost year-to-date.

However, Buick has been the only brand weighing down GM recently. While its sales are up 14.3 percent year-to-date to 156,835, the brand reported a challenging September with a 14 percent decrease in sales, largely due to a 37.8 percent drop in Encore GX sales and a 35.3 percent decline in Envision sales.
