Amazon's Zoox has introduced its fully driverless ride-hailing service in Las Vegas.

Initially, rides will be offered for free and can be reserved through the Zoox app.

The service seems to be confined to a select number of predetermined locations.

Las Vegas is famous for its gambling, but would you trust your life to a robotaxi? If your answer is affirmative, you now have a new choice with Amazon’s Zoox officially launching its service in Sin City.

This launch follows months of testing, and rides can be booked at no cost via the Zoox app, making it easy for passengers to navigate around the Las Vegas Strip.

Zoox has stated that passengers will be limited to “several destinations” rather than being able to travel anywhere they wish. Currently, the available locations include Resorts World Las Vegas, AREA15, Topgolf, and several other busy resort and entertainment sites.

Regarding the destinations, both Resorts World Las Vegas and AREA15 feature dedicated pickup and drop-off zones along with a Zoox Concierge service. They will assist you, guide you through the app, and address any inquiries to ensure your first ride is seamless.

To help riders identify their correct robotaxi, the license plate number will be displayed in the app, along with estimated pickup times. The app will also provide real-time arrival notifications and post-ride summaries, including options for providing feedback.

Zoox is particularly focused on the feedback aspect as they recognize the importance of a successful launch and want users to become familiar with the service and “share their feedback with us before we grow.” While the initial rides are free to generate interest, the company has indicated that they will eventually introduce charges.

Since autonomous driving technology is not infallible, passengers can access assistance through the app if issues arise. Additionally, there is a designated help button on the interior display.

Zoox claims to be the first company to offer a “fully autonomous ride-hailing service in a purpose-built robotaxi.” CEO Aicha Evans remarked, “Las Vegas is a city renowned for unforgettable moments, making it the perfect place for our launch. Zoox is aimed at revolutionizing the entire ride-hailing experience, ensuring every ride is enjoyable.”
