      While the Autobahn is often thought of as a place to drive fast, many sections have speed limits. One driver learned this the hard way and is now facing significant penalties.

      According to German authorities, an enforcement trailer was stationed along the A2 motorway in a section with speed limits near Magdeburg. While active, the trailer recorded a driver surpassing the speed limit at 199 mph (321 km/h) in a 75 mph (120 km/h) zone — an astonishing 124 mph (201 km/h) over the speed limit.

      This behavior is quite extreme, and police have stated he is now facing a fine of $1,050 (€900). Additionally, he faces two points on his license and a three-month driving suspension.

      Authorities released this information to remind drivers that speed limits "are in place to protect everyone" and "will keep you safe on the road." They emphasized that adhering to regulations can help drivers "avoid hefty fines, points on their license, and driving bans."

      While the announcement lacked detailed information, Tagesschau reported that the unidentified individual was operating a Porsche Panamera. There are no specifics on which variant, but the high-end Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid produces a combined output of 771 hp (575 kW / 782 PS) and has a maximum speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).

      Interestingly, the article noted a previous case involving a Bugatti driver who was recorded driving at 259 mph (417 km/h) on the same road. That incident occurred in 2021, and authorities were investigating whether the driver was racing illegally. However, the investigation was reportedly closed due to a lack of sufficient suspicion of a crime.
