Skoda is teasing the Vision O concept, which will be showcased at the Munich IAA show in September.
The Vision O serves as a preview for the next-generation electric Octavia, slated to be available by 2029.
This model is related to the upcoming VW ID.Golf, but features a longer wheelbase for additional interior space.
It’s a promising time for Skoda salespeople, as the Czech automaker saw a 13.6 percent increase in registrations during the first half of 2025, largely attributed to the success of its electric SUVs, the Elroq and Enyaq. This year, they will also introduce the smaller Epiq, while Skoda has reminded us that its popular sedans and wagons are also being electrified.
The no-nonsense Czech brand is teasing the Vision O concept, which is set to be fully revealed at the Munich IAA in September. The 'O' indicates that this model is a preview of the next-generation Octavia compact, expected to be launched before the end of the decade and equipped with an electric drivetrain for the first time.
A single silhouette image displays the recognizable profile of a wagon, looking sportier than previous Skoda models. The windshield slants back into a low roofline that descends slightly at the rear, culminating in a rear hatch designed for style and aerodynamic efficiency rather than maximum cargo space.
The design has a distinct Audi vibe, reminiscent of the A6 e-tron Avant from sister brand Audi, although the front and rear LED signatures clearly signify it as a Skoda vehicle. Skoda mentions that this concept will illustrate how the brand is evolving its Modern Solid design language for the next generation of cars.
Beneath the surface, the next Octavia is not based on the larger A6 e-tron, which utilizes VW’s PPE platform, but rather on the smaller VW ID.Golf expected to arrive in showrooms by 2029, around the same timeframe as the Skoda. Both the Golf and Octavia EVs will utilize the Group’s SSP platform and feature 800-volt charging technology, but the Skoda will provide more interior and luggage space due to its longer wheelbase and overall length, likely at a slightly lower price. Owners have often argued that the Octavia surpasses the Golf.
When the production model eventually debuts in three to four years, single and dual-motor powertrains will be available, but the existing combustion-engine Octavia is not expected to become obsolete right away. The high demand for hybrid powertrains in Europe suggests that the two models will coexist for some time.
