Tesla's New Diner Upsets Residents by Drawing Unwanted Attention | Carscoops

Residents and demonstrators share their perspectives on Tesla's new destination charging station.

Tesla’s latest diner in West Hollywood features EV charging, nostalgic food, and outdoor cinema.

Protesters attended the grand opening, accusing Musk and Tesla of exerting detrimental political influence.

Local residents report that the 24-hour diner has caused significant traffic congestion and are urging Tesla to address the issue.

The new Tesla diner in West Hollywood is generating buzz, though not always in ways that the company might prefer. Initially envisioned as a nostalgic, tech-savvy venue, it arrives at a challenging time for Tesla. With sales and earnings declining, a shaky launch for the Model Y, and the Cybertruck still facing hurdles, this diner was intended to provide positive news. However, it has instead become a focal point of controversy.

After revealing plans back in 2018, Tesla finally opened the diner last week. Located at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, it boasts a unique retro-futuristic atmosphere. Customers can charge their vehicles, enjoy Tesla-themed menu items, and watch films on two large outdoor screens. Recently, they have also had to contend with demonstrators outside.

      Protests Disrupt the Atmosphere

On July 26, a group gathered outside the diner to protest against Elon Musk and Donald Trump while urging a boycott of Tesla. They displayed signs that read “Doge (The Department of Governmental Efficiency) Kills” and “Musk Steals.” Some protesters even brought large inflatable dolls representing Musk, mimicking a repetitive salute. Observers noted that the ambiance was less than peaceful.

“Chaos at the new Tesla diner in Hollywood. There was a three-hour wait to enter, loud music from protestors across the street, and tensions escalated when one protester threw himself onto a Cybertruck,” reported a witness on X. Despite the demonstrations, it seems the long lines persisted, though one organizer remains optimistic about the boycott efforts.

Joel Lava told CNN, “This is the world’s most famous anti-trans advocate who has just opened a diner in West Hollywood. The community is not very supportive of Elon. Our main message is that Tesla funds fascism. Elon Musk, through DOGE, has undermined our government agencies and people's jobs, leading to global consequences.” Lava’s assertion about the community’s support is not entirely unfounded.

      Community Feedback on Local Effects

Laura Kody, a local resident, commented to ABC7, “If you can send people to Mars, you should be able to sort this out for residents.”

Another resident remarked, “We were initially excited for the supercharger station thinking it would benefit local businesses, but it has resulted in severe gridlock from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. The congestion is extreme. I worry that in case of an emergency, an ambulance might not be able to reach us, which is particularly concerning as my parents are elderly.”

Kody believes Tesla should consider acquiring or renting a nearby lot to accommodate those waiting to charge without obstructing traffic.

Currently, Tesla has not revealed any plans to respond to the criticism. However, if this location continues to draw large crowds and significant media attention, the company may need to reevaluate its approach to both business operations and community relations.
