Cybertruck Suspension Mysteriously Detonates in Owner's Driveway | Carscoops

It has been indicated that the owner may have unintentionally damaged the Tesla's suspension in the past.

The Cybertruck’s air suspension experienced a sudden failure after being parked for 12 hours.

The shock and spring burst through the frame, leading to considerable structural harm.

Tesla has refused warranty coverage, attributing the damage to an external factor.

Air suspension systems provide a distinct benefit in contemporary vehicles, enabling drivers to adjust ride height easily. This feature is particularly advantageous for off-road and pickup trucks, where adaptability and ground clearance are essential. The Tesla Cybertruck is among several vehicles that come equipped with air suspension as standard. However, one owner reported a dramatic failure of his truck’s suspension, and there was no clear reason provided.

On the Tesla Owners Online forum, a Texas resident reported hearing a low “shotgun-like bang” from his Foundation Series Cybertruck parked outside. Upon inspection, he saw “smoke or dust” rising from the Tesla's bed in his driveway.

Typically, when someone hears a bang from an electric vehicle, they might expect the battery to have ignited spontaneously; however, that was not the case here, at least according to the owner.

      A Sudden Collapse

After the noise, the right side of the Cybertruck began to sag immediately. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Tesla service center in Houston, where a technician discovered that one of the shocks and springs had pushed upward and damaged part of the Tesla's frame.

Despite the unusual failure, Tesla refused to cover the damage under warranty, claiming it was due to an “outside influence.” The service center also requested $250 from the owner to release the vehicle in its current state.

The owner speculated that the extreme Texas heat might have caused the air suspension to fail, noting that the truck had not been used for over 12 hours when the suspension encountered its failure.

External Damage or a Design Flaw?

Not everyone on the forum supports the temperature theory. One user suggested that for the air suspension to fail as described, the casing would likely have had to sustain prior damage, possibly from off-road driving. The owner acknowledged that he had driven his Cybertruck off-road, raising the possibility that the suspension could have been damaged without his awareness.

Regardless of what caused the damage, no vehicle should suffer such a catastrophic suspension failure unless it has been driven off a cliff or experienced a similar extreme scenario. While air suspension systems can sometimes have issues, a sudden failure that affects the frame raises questions about unnoticed damage, the durability of the system, or both.

Could the high temperatures have triggered the failure, or did off-road usage gradually impair the suspension until it eventually broke? The exact cause remains uncertain, but it's certainly not the kind of bang that any EV owner would want to hear.
