Alongside the introduction of the new base trim, Japan's Crown Sport also debuts a special edition to celebrate 70 years of the Crown.
Toyota has launched a more economical Crown Sport G variant for the Japanese market.
The entry-level Crown Sport G is priced at approximately $35,600 but lacks various standard features.
Additionally, it features a new 70th-anniversary edition with unique badging and visual enhancements.
The Toyota Crown Sport is returning to the Japanese market for the new model year with several updates, maintaining its status as a stylish, performance-oriented SUV that some compare to a budget version of the Ferrari Purosangue due to shared design elements. The most recent updates include a new base trim and a special edition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Crown Series.
The newly launched base trim reduces the starting price by omitting certain previously standard features, while the commemorative version enhances the recognizable Crown Sport design with a few modifications.
The Special Edition
Beginning with the Crown Sport The 70th, this edition parallels the special variants of the Crown Sedan, Estate, and Crossover. It is visually distinguished by a bi-tone paint job, featuring a Precious Metal finish on the roof and pillars, while the remainder of the body can be chosen in either Precious White or Black. Matte black 21-inch alloy wheels complete the exterior enhancements, with an optional side decal for additional style.
Inside, it boasts leather upholstery in Black Luster with copper accents. The designers made sure to highlight that this is a 70th anniversary model, featuring a logo on the dashboard, premium shift knob, puddle lights, key, and leather-wrapped manual case.
The anniversary special is offered with two powertrain options, including a self-charging hybrid delivering 231 hp (172 kW / 234 PS) and a plug-in hybrid configuration generating 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS), both distributing power to all four wheels through the E-Four AWD system.

New Entry-Level Trim Reduces Starting Price
Moreover, Toyota has introduced a more budget-friendly version known as the Sport G. This variant is available solely with the hybrid system and is priced ¥700,000 ($4,800) less than the former entry-level Sport Z. Consequently, the starting cost of the Crown Sport is now ¥5,200,000 ($35,600), aligning it more closely with the ¥5,150,000 ($35,200) of the least expensive Crown Crossover.
On the exterior, the Sport G looks identical to the Sport Z. However, its interior takes a more simplified approach. Several features have been eliminated, including various advanced driver-assistance systems, the driver monitoring camera, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and other comfort-oriented amenities.
Standard features include a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, six speakers, automatic high beam assist, fabric and synthetic leather seat upholstery, and a genuine leather steering wheel.
Other updates for the new model year include the option to equip the Crown Sport RS with matte black 21-inch alloy wheels and a black interior. Additionally, the smart entry system is now standard across the entire range. The top-tier Limited-Matte Metal edition, first introduced in October 2024 featuring a unique matte finish, remains the priciest variant of the Crown Sport, priced at ¥8,200,000 ($56,100).
