Modern vehicles are highly intricate, and repairing them requires time.
This situation has been exacerbated by a recent shortage of technicians.
It's well-known that cars are becoming more advanced and challenging to repair. Additionally, the lack of automotive technicians has been an issue, although reports suggest that the situation is improving.
Given these circumstances, it’s not surprising that having your car repaired can turn into a process that takes several days. However, the duration can differ greatly depending on the nature of the problem and the fix required.

This leads us to today's question: how long is too long for a dealership to repair your car? This inquiry is particularly relevant as my Jeep Cherokee has been at a dealership for nearly four weeks. To make matters worse, they haven’t managed to diagnose the issue, only able to replicate it.
My patience was wearing thin around the three-week mark, and now it's essentially gone. This situation is far from what I anticipated when I made an appointment in early June.
In most cases, you drop your car off and the dealership might take a day or two to start working on it if they are busy. After that, you would expect them to resolve the issue fairly quickly. While this can take some time, especially if they are waiting for parts, it shouldn’t escalate into a multi-week saga.
Unfortunately, that’s the situation I find myself in, and the lengthy process has resulted in my warranty now expiring. I'm uncertain how this will conclude, but my third Jeep could potentially be my last.
With all this in mind, how long should a dealership take to fix your vehicle? Additionally, what’s the longest a dealership has kept your car in the shop? Please feel free to share in the comments below.
