A few modifications to the front end of the Italian grand tourer and it resembles a next-generation Toyota GR Supra.

The new Ferrari Amalfi was unveiled this week as the successor to the Roma.

This model garnered positive feedback but was likened to Toyota's design language.

A digital illustration transforms the entry-level Ferrari into a fictional next-gen Supra.

Ferrari’s newest model, the Amalfi, offers an enticing blend of Italian aesthetics and performance for the entry-level segment of their lineup. It boasts traditional grand tourer dimensions and a powerful twin-turbo V8 engine under the hood.

On paper, it encapsulates everything expected from Maranello. However, once the images were shared online, viewers quickly began to notice a resemblance to an entirely different automobile—the Toyota Prius.

Digital artist Theophilus Chin, widely known as Theottle, took this concept further. With some clever visual modifications, he envisioned the Ferrari Amalfi as a next-generation Toyota GR Supra. The transformation is impressively convincing, even if no one genuinely anticipates a Toyota to appear this sophisticated.

Generally, turning a Ferrari into a Toyota would appear to necessitate substantial visual alterations. Nevertheless, Theottle demonstrated that it isn't always required. A side-by-side comparison with the original image reveals that the changes are rather minimal. The imagined Toyota variant has redesigned headlights and a slightly wider grille, but the lower bumper and overall body structure remain intact.

To finalize the transformation, the artist removed the Ferrari emblems from the front fenders and replaced them with Toyota badges on the front and wheels. Interestingly, the bright Giallo Modena color didn't require modifications either. It's already quite similar in shade to the Karashi yellow found on the Toyota Prius, allowing the color to seamlessly fit with the Toyota aesthetic.

The dialogue surrounding visual similarities between Ferrari and Toyota is not a recent phenomenon. The Ferrari SF90, launched in 2019, featured a front-end design that closely resembles Toyota’s hammerhead-style nose, which has since become a prevalent characteristic throughout much of the Japanese automaker's lineup. This resemblance is part of why the Toyota Crown Sport SUV, available in Japan, has been compared to a more economical variant of the Ferrari Purosangue.

Social media users have also noted that the Ferrari Amalfi shares some design elements with another Japanese model, the Honda Prelude. This coupe, based on the Civic, has a narrow grille between the headlights and similarly shaped bumper intakes. Nonetheless, its bulkier frame doesn't quite align with the sleek build of Ferrari’s grand tourer.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether Ferrari's designers drew inspiration from mainstream brands. Regardless, it will be interesting to see if the upcoming generations of the Toyota Celica and Supra display any influence from Maranello in their designs.
