Polestar is developing a new compact crossover set to debut in 2028.

Recently, Polestar has teased the upcoming model, referred to as the 7, which will be launched in 2028. This electric crossover is expected to be built on the new SPA3 platform and will be produced alongside a brand-new Volvo at a facility in Slovakia.

In a significant announcement, Polestar and Volvo revealed their plans for two new vehicles, both slated to be introduced before the decade concludes and manufactured at Volvo's new plant in Kosice, Slovakia.

Polestar has officially confirmed the introduction of a new model called the 7, designed as a premium compact crossover scheduled to launch in 2028. Although the company has not released extensive details, it has stated that the vehicle will utilize a "technology base from Volvo Cars," which will incorporate shared components, advancements in cell-to-body technology featuring next-generation battery performance, and new in-house developed electric motors.

Even with this strong association with Volvo, Polestar noted that various "adaptations" would be made to ensure the performance and driving experience align with the brand's reputation.

Though specifics remain sparse, a teaser image was shared, showing the crossover covered with a sheet. While not revealing much, it indicates an upright front end with substantial lighting elements, along with pronounced fenders and a striking Polestar emblem.

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller remarked, "Collaboration with Volvo Cars for the development and manufacturing of [the] Polestar 7 in Europe presents a unique opportunity that will enhance our standing within our home market. Our approach of utilizing Group architectures as a foundation for our future models grants us access to the latest technologies in a cost-effective way." He also affirmed that the upcoming crossover will feature sporty driving dynamics and a distinctive design.

New Volvo Crossover to Debut First

Volvo responded positively and disclosed that the Polestar 7 will come after an upcoming yet-to-be-revealed next-generation model from their brand. Although the launch of this unknown Volvo is anticipated before 2028, no specific timeline has been provided. Reports from Reuters suggest that "large-scale production" has been postponed until early 2027.

While further details about their electric crossover remain limited, Volvo has confirmed that the Polestar 7 will share a "common technology base with two upcoming Volvo models, including the Volvo EX60." The EX60 is set to launch next year and will utilize the new SPA3 platform, which will be the foundation for all future Volvos.

The EX60, classified as a mid-sized crossover, will be the first to feature a multi-adaptive safety belt designed to enhance protection by "adapting to variations in traffic and the individual wearing it, utilizing real-time data from the vehicle's advanced sensors." This system will take into account a person's height, weight, body shape, and seating position.

Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson stated, “Our partnership with Polestar on the Polestar 7's development and manufacturing highlights how Volvo Cars and Polestar continue to capitalize on synergies to efficiently produce exceptional vehicles tailored to our distinct customer segments.” He emphasized that this builds upon the success of their collaborative efforts on the well-regarded Polestar 2 and Polestar 3.

The Kosice plant is currently under construction and will represent Volvo's third manufacturing site in Europe, with an estimated investment of around $1.4 billion, and it aims for an annual production capacity of up to 250,000 vehicles.
