Ram’s choice to reintroduce the Hemi in the 1500 has proven to be a significant triumph.
The company recorded over 10,000 orders within a single day.
The 5.7-liter V8 engine generates 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.
Last month, Ram unveiled the 2026 1500 and confirmed that the iconic 5.7-liter Hemi V8 was returning. Although it was only absent for a single model year, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis acknowledged that the company “messed up when we removed the Hemi.”
Its comeback was welcomed by enthusiasts, who expressed their support through their purchases. The figures are indeed remarkable, as Stellantis North America’s U.S. sales head, Jeff Kommor, disclosed that the truck brand received “over 10,000 orders in the first 24 hours of the June announcement.” To provide context, Ram sold 51,848 light-duty pickups in the second quarter.

As a reminder, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is available as a $1,200 option on most truck models, delivering 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 410 lb-ft (555 Nm) of torque. This represents a notable upgrade compared to the base 3.6-liter V6, but it falls short compared to the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six that produces 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm).

While the statistics favor the other engines, Kuniskis mentioned that some customers are “cylinder counters” who appreciate V8 engines. They felt Ram had neglected something crucial when the Hemi was dropped, and the company was concerned about losing these customers to Ford and General Motors. As the executive highlighted, once they leave, “good luck getting them back.”
Considering the figures, Ram’s F15 initiative to reinstate the Hemi was a resounding success. However, Kuniskis cautioned that the launch may face some challenges until supply aligns with demand.
