The project seeks to celebrate Indian culture and strengthen Suzuki's connections with India and its exports.

Suzuki has partnered with Torizen to provide ready-made vegetarian curry meal kits in Japan.

These dishes were first offered in Suzuki’s employee cafeteria at the beginning of last year.

Each curry package features illustrations of Suzuki vehicles, including the Jimny.

When an automaker delves into the curry business, you know something intriguing is happening (sorry, I couldn't resist the pun). Suzuki, renowned for its vehicles ranging from cars to motorcycles, has ventured into the culinary sector. The company has collaborated with restaurant operator Torizen to launch a series of ready-made curry meal kits, each showcasing popular Suzuki models on its packaging.

This unexpected partnership began in early 2024 when Torizen started serving its vegetarian Indian dishes in Suzuki's employee cafeteria. The meals were well-received by the staff, prompting Suzuki to package the recipes for public sale instead of limiting them to lunch at headquarters. The ready-to-eat meals are priced starting at ¥918 (approximately $6) for each 180g serving and can be purchased through Suzuki’s official online store in Japan.

The limited collection includes four different pre-cooked curry dishes that are easy to prepare. Each flavor comes in a uniquely designed box, crafted by Suzuki’s Automobile Design Department. The packaging features models such as the Swift and Jimny alongside motorcycles like the Hayabusa and V-Strom 1050 DE.

Each box not only displays a vehicle but also wraps the ingredients visually, making it easier to choose your flavor. Furthermore, there’s a clever design touch: if you purchase all four boxes and line them up, a hidden illustration becomes visible across the set. Suzuki has also hinted at the possibility of additional designs, indicating this may not be a one-time venture.

Suzuki provided a detailed breakdown of the four curry varieties, in case you enjoy vehicle-themed meals with specifications. Here’s the menu:

Daikon Sambal (Hayabusa): A South Indian-style stew featuring daikon radish, carrots, and turmeric beans. The tamarind adds a distinct tartness, and Suzuki suggests pairing it with rice, similar to miso soup. Spice level: 3 out of 5.

Tomato Lentil Dahl (Swift): A North Indian-inspired stew that remains simple and nutritious. Its main ingredients are lentils and tomatoes, seasoned with cumin, turmeric, and chili. It’s basic yet flavorful. Spice level: 2.

Brown Chickpea Masala (Jimny): This dish has a more robust flavor profile, incorporating brown chickpeas that retain their skin along with slow-fried onions. Tomatoes and green chilies provide a bright, sharp taste. Spice level: 4.

Green Vegetable Moong Dal (V-Strom): Another North Indian dish, this one includes peeled yellow mung beans and Japanese mustard spinach. Expect mild bitterness balanced by the earthy aroma of cumin. Spice level: 1.

Torizen CEO Yoshitaka Date mentioned that the idea originated from genuine collaboration in Suzuki’s cafeteria, where the recipes impressed employees. “The dish is filled with gratitude and love for overseas talent, including India,” he remarked, adding that it has a gentle yet strong flavor.

Beyond providing employees with a tastier lunch option and introducing a new product line to Suzuki’s offerings, the project highlights India's cultural and culinary contributions to Japan. This initiative is particularly relevant, given that several Suzuki models currently available in Japan, such as the Jimny 5-Door, Fronx, and WR-V, are directly imported from India.
