A camouflaged prototype of the 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance was observed testing on public roads, revealing its distinctive features.

Reported on June 23, 2025, by Brad Anderson, the popular electric vehicle (EV) showcases a unique rear end and new 21-inch wheels. Tesla is anticipated to reveal the Model Y Performance soon, and it will feature a special badge on the rear, similar to that of the Model 3 Performance.

The anticipation for Tesla's next high-performance electric crossover is coming to an end, as the last details appear to be coming together. Following our spy photographers capturing a camouflaged version at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, an entirely undisguised prototype was filmed while testing in the German Alps.

The recorded footage, likely taken by the exterior cameras of a nearby Tesla, provides a clearer view of this updated Performance trim. Matching the recently seen refreshed Model Y, the front bumper design remains unchanged.

However, the prototype features a distinctive rear bumper that is blacked out like the standard Model Y but includes two small diffusers. While their aerodynamic benefits may be minimal, they help differentiate the Performance model from the standard ones. Additionally, a new badge resembling the ‘Plaid’ badge from the Model 3 Performance has been incorporated into the tailgate.

The sporty EV also displays some significant modifications, including a clearer look at the exclusive 21-inch wheels for the Model Y Performance. At the rear, a larger lip spoiler enhances the sporty appeal of the vehicle.

In terms of color, this Model Y appears to showcase a unique burnt orange hue. However, it is possible that this is an optical illusion caused by the side cameras of Tesla vehicles with the HW3 self-driving computer, which can make red cars appear orange due to the absence of an infrared cut filter. Therefore, it’s likely that what appears as orange is actually one of Tesla's existing red shades.

Regarding performance, the new Model Y should utilize the same dual-motor system featured in the Model 3 Performance, generating 510 hp and 554 lb-ft (751 Nm) of torque. This configuration should enable it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just over three seconds, making it sufficiently quick for its badge and likely faster than most owners will ever require.
