This 1968 Mustang restomod boasts modern enhancements while preserving its classic charm.

It is equipped with a 500+ hp Aluminator XS V8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission.

The customized Mustang is set to be auctioned at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special on July 12.

Restomods are increasingly gaining popularity. Advances in manufacturing, CAD, and other technologies are transforming once far-fetched ideas into reality. A prime example of this is about to be auctioned in Florida: a 1968 Ford Mustang fastback that exudes classic style on the outside while showcasing contemporary performance beneath the skin.

Available at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special 2025, this car has just 2,695 miles on the odometer. Under the hood lies a 5.0-liter V8 engine. Its exterior features a striking Gulf Racing livery, hand-crafted front fender flares, and recessed door handles by Kingdig-it Design. It’s a stunning ride that can remain incognito despite its vibrant color scheme, as there’s much more beneath its surface.

      Precision Power

Ford states that this 5.0-liter V8, known as the Aluminator XS, produces over 500 horsepower, has an 11.0:1 compression ratio, and utilizes Mahle forged pistons. It’s designed to withstand heavy use – and then some. This power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec six-speed manual transmission, an 8.8-inch rear end, CCW wheels, and high-traction BF Goodrich tires.

Griggs Racing suspension components maintain flat handling in curves, while Wilwood disc brakes ensure efficient stopping after acceleration. A roll cage with removable sidebars guarantees safety by preventing body panels from compromising the occupants’ space in case of emergencies. Modern touches are integrated into the interior while maintaining tasteful design elements akin to the drivetrain.

The gauges are from Classic Instruments and feature custom colors. A dependable Vintage Air unit serves as the HVAC system. A Sony sound system is included with a modern head unit and a subwoofer positioned behind the seats. Leather bucket seats equipped with safety harnesses secure passengers comfortably, and a fire suppression system enhances safety.

If all of this sounds enticing, check out the complete auction listing here. It's hard to predict its final price, but we don't anticipate it being a steal when bidding concludes on July 12 at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special.
