Honda Revives Classic NSX with New Restoration Service | Carscoops

The new initiative will provide authentic parts and restoration services for models that are no longer in production.

Honda's restoration service is set to begin next year with the original NSX.

The service will later extend to include other classic performance models from Honda.

Other Japanese automakers, such as Toyota and Nissan, also provide similar services.

If you possess a classic Honda and have had difficulty finding original parts, your situation has just improved. The Japanese manufacturer has introduced a program aimed at supplying authentic parts and restoration services for discontinued models, starting with the original NSX next year. This means that if your cherished classic is appearing more “vintage” rather than “well-maintained,” assistance is on the way.

While Honda is keeping specifics about the new service under wraps for the moment, it has confirmed that modern manufacturing methods, including 3D printing, are simplifying the process of recreating certain parts for classic vehicles. This might mean that soon, your aging NSX could be restored to include that hard-to-find side mirror or air intake.

This isn’t Honda’s first time launching special programs for the NSX. Since 1993, they have been implementing the NSX Refresh Plan, which provides services ranging from engine rebuilds to interior enhancements. For owners looking to rejuvenate their NSX, Honda has offered options like repainted exteriors and completely new interiors.

However, the NSX Refresh Plan will be discontinued this year to pave the way for this new, more comprehensive restoration service. Rest assured, the new initiative will include “genuine compatible parts,” ensuring your NSX receives high-quality components.

What Other Models Might Participate in the Service?

Regrettably, Honda has not specified which other models will benefit from the new restoration services, aside from stating that “the service will be expanded to cover other sports-type models.” This suggests that you shouldn’t anticipate efforts to keep older Odysseys on the roads, but rather to include some of its celebrated classic performance vehicles, likely including several with the esteemed Type R badge.

Honda has indicated that more information regarding the new services and parts supply will be shared later this year.

Honda is not the only Japanese manufacturer getting involved in restoration services. Both Toyota and Nissan also offer comparable programs. Toyota has its GR Heritage Parts division, which reproduces parts for models like the AE86, A70, and A80 Supra, as well as various series of Land Cruisers. Likewise, Nissan provides a complete restoration service for several of its discontinued models, including classic Skyline GT-Rs.
