Land Rover has refreshed its aging Discovery Sport SUV with new trim names and options.

The Landmark trim embodies an outdoor theme, while the more upscale Metropolitan trim caters to urban drivers.

There are rumors that Land Rover will soon introduce a more stylish Defender Sport to replace the compact SUV.

The Discovery Sport is quite dated, having been introduced in 2014, predating the current Range Rover Sport, which has been available for a couple of years now. It underwent a facelift five years later and is now receiving another minor update to mask its age.

Concerns about the Discovery Sport’s age are heightened by the likelihood of it being succeeded in the next year or two by the first-ever Defender Sport.

Additionally, Jaguar Land Rover's parent company has created an electric SUV with a drift mode priced at just $25,000.

Our spy photographers have captured a prototype of the smaller Defender undergoing testing, and while Land Rover hasn't officially stated it will replace the Discovery Sport, the absence of confirmation regarding the renewal of the smaller Discovery strongly implies that the Defender Sport will take over.

The Defender branding and design elements will enhance the appeal of the new compact SUV, and we are eager to see the final product. However, for those who can't wait a few years or are unaware of what JLR has planned, there are some important changes for the 2026 model year.

The entry-level S trim has been renamed Dynamic S, which aligns with the existing Dynamic SE and Dynamic HSE in the lineup. However, Land Rover has discontinued those grades in favor of the Landmark and Metropolitan trims.

The base Dynamic S now boasts new wheels and gloss-black exterior trim, while Landmark features an indistinct outdoor vibe, featuring mountain logos on the sill plates and puddle lights, a panoramic roof for scenic views, and a 3D camera to help navigate around obstacles on trails (as well as bikes in the driveway).

The Metropolitan trim, being the more luxurious option, is distinguished by its silver grille, 14-way adjustable heated and cooled seats, a 650-Watt 14-speaker Meridian sound system, and 20-inch alloy wheels. All SUV grades now have access to a new assortment of accessory packs themed around beach outings, road trips, and snowy days, which include items like an armrest cooler, sunshades, and a roof box.

What remains unchanged is the standard all-wheel drive system and the selection of four-cylinder engines, which includes diesel and plug-in hybrid options available in Europe, but not in the United States.
