Thieves Steal Two New Hummer EVs from a Train, You Can Imagine What Happened Next | Carscoops
It's evident that the criminals were not equipped for a successful escape with these large electric off-road vehicles.
The electric vehicles were taken off a train at GM’s Factory Zero plant, but their journey was short-lived.
Both Hummers apparently lost their tires while attempting to drive on the train tracks.
There's no information available on how the thieves managed to access the train.
Sometimes, ambition exceeds preparation, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the case of two would-be car thieves who aimed for much more than they could handle.
In Detroit last month, two aspiring car thieves tried their luck with two brand-new GMC Hummer EVs, and the outcome was far from ideal. While most car thieves usually target dealership lots for easier picks, this group took a different approach. They went directly to the source: GM’s Factory Zero plant in Detroit. Perhaps it was the enticing scent of freshly manufactured vehicles, but for whatever reason, they chose to steal the EVs straight from a train.
There’s no information on how they gained access to the GM plant or the train yard, but somehow they managed to do so. After getting into the train yard, they were able to open a train's doors and attempted to drive off with two Hummer EVs. It's assumed that the vehicles were left unlocked, with the keys still inside.
While there’s no footage from security cameras, a clip of the aftermath of this failed theft has surfaced. One of the Hummers, painted black, can be seen stuck on the train tracks after seemingly losing its passenger-side front tire.
Train Hopping, Lacking Elegance
On the other hand, the second GMC didn't even manage to leave the train. It looks like the thieves tried to drive the EVs off the side of the train without any ramps. The silver model appears to have crashed down onto the tracks, resulting in another tire being ripped off. Additionally, it has sustained significant damage to the front end and some damage to the rear quarter panels as well.
As reported by The Metro Detroit News, the incident is under investigation, but no arrests seem to have been made yet.
