Toyota's Worldwide Sales Boom Is Surpassing All Predictions | Carscoops
The world's largest automaker has ramped up both international and Japanese production this year.
Toyota achieved record sales in April, rising 10% year-over-year to 876,864 units.
Sales in North America increased by 8.2%, with a 10% rise in the US market in April.
In China, sales were boosted by generous subsidies, increasing by 20.8% to reach 142,754 units.
Despite the chaos caused by the US administration's tariff policies in the automotive sector, Toyota is experiencing a particularly strong start to the year. In April, the Japanese manufacturer sold a total of 876,864 vehicles, including Lexus models, setting a new monthly record and reflecting a 10% increase compared to April of the previous year.
The world’s largest carmaker is witnessing significant sales growth across most major regions, particularly in North America, where sales increased by 8.2% from the previous year to 270,365 units in April. This includes 233,045 vehicles sold in the United States, which represents a 10% boost. Conversely, sales in Canada fell by 1.7% to 24,644 units, and in Mexico, they decreased by 7.5% to 9,252 units.
In its sales report, Toyota credited the robust North American performance to sustained strong demand and a rush in purchases before the tariffs were implemented.
In Latin America, Toyota's sales rose to 41,552 units in April, marking an 8.1% increase. Similarly, sales in Europe grew by 8.4% to 98,611 units, although some regions reported declines, such as the UK and France, where sales dropped by 12.9% and 12.1%, respectively.
Asia has been particularly favorable for Toyota, with sales climbing by 12.9% in April to 254,773 units, and by 20.8% in China to 142,754 units. The company noted that sales growth in China was aided by attractive dealership promotions associated with the government's generous subsidy programs.
In its home market of Japan, Toyota's sales increased by 11.8% to reach 120,674 units in April. The Middle East also saw a 9.9% rise in sales, while Africa experienced a 25.4% increase. However, sales in Oceania fell by 6%, including a 5.8% decline in Australia and a 7.8% drop in New Zealand.
Most of Toyota's production occurs outside of Japan; in April, a total of 814,787 new Toyota and Lexus models were produced globally, representing a 7.8% increase from the previous year. In comparison, 268,957 new vehicles were manufactured in Japan, reflecting a 6.9% increase from April 2024.
